JoJo Liu is a Chinese calligrapher and cultural arts educator based in San Francisco. Trained from an early age under the guidance of her grandfather and traditional calligraphy teachers, she has dedicated her career to bridging traditional Chinese brush practices with contemporary forms of expression.

Liu’s practice reinterprets calligraphy as a living art—one that preserves the philosophical depth of ink and brush while engaging with modern audiences. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the International Art Museum of America (IAMA), including Echoes in Ink: The Fusion of Tradition and Expression in Chinese Calligraphy (2024) and Flow of Tradition (2025).

Alongside her artistic practice, Liu is deeply committed to cultural education. She taught The Art of Chinese Calligraphy at Stanford University Continuing Studies in Spring 2025. Her presence was significant: she brought authentic training and heritage into a world-class academic setting, ensuring that Chinese calligraphy—one of the world’s oldest art forms—remains visible, relevant, and inspiring. Her teaching advanced cultural preservation, broadened educational impact, and fostered meaningful cross-cultural dialogue between Eastern traditions and Western learners.

She also regularly leads workshops at libraries, museums, and public institutions, and has collaborated with organizations such as Visa, eBay, Google, Netflix, and Disney, bringing calligraphy to corporate and cultural audiences across the United States.

Liu serves as a Board Member of the San Francisco Chinese Arts Association and is a member of the American Artist Association. In 2024, she also served as a judge for the By the Light of the Moon Art Show organized by the South San Francisco Cultural Arts Commission, further extending her role in cultural exchange and community engagement. Her mission is to make Chinese calligraphy accessible, modern, and inspiring—inviting people of all backgrounds to discover its meditative beauty and timeless resonance.

JoJo Calligraphy is proud to offer virtual Chinese calligraphy classes via Zoom to students all across the USA. We particularly emphasize our connections to vibrant cultural communities in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Boston, New York City, and Chicago, making this traditional art form accessible and engaging to everyone, regardless of their location.
