Honoring AAPI Heritage Month with Chinese Calligraphy in the Greater San Francisco Area
As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, there’s no better time to explore the deep cultural roots and mindful practice of Chinese calligraphy. Throughout May, I’m offering a variety of in-person and California virtual Chinese calligraphy lessons—with a special focus on the Greater San Francisco area.
This ancient art form, which blends expressive brushwork with meditative rhythm, is a meaningful way to connect with Chinese heritage and the broader AAPI cultural legacy. Whether you’re joining virtually from home or attending an in-person workshop, each class is designed to be beginner-friendly, calming, and creatively enriching.
Here are some of the special events happening this May in and around San Francisco:
May 1 – Chinese Calligraphy Class at the San Francisco Public Library
May 24 – Chinese Calligraphy Class hosted by the Sunnyvale Public Library
May 28 – Learn Chinese Calligraphy at Mountain View Public Library (LibCal)
Plus, several virtual events available across California, including:
May 3 – Zoom: Chinese Calligraphy via Croton Free Library
May 21 – Virtual Beginner’s Chinese Calligraphy with Charles County Public Library
May 21 – Learn Chinese Calligraphy (Virtual, Charles County Public Library)
These workshops bring the art of calligraphy to the broader Bay Area community and beyond, offering a chance to slow down, reconnect with tradition, and express yourself creatively.
Celebrating AAPI Heritage Month Through Art
AAPI Heritage Month is a time to reflect on the cultural richness and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Participating in AAPI Heritage Month events, like these calligraphy workshops, helps preserve vital traditions while inviting new generations to engage with the beauty of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. Each session becomes not just a lesson in brush technique, but a deeper exploration of identity, history, and mindfulness.
